New OSEP Discretionary Funding Opportunities

 

Resource: Medicaid Funding for School-Based Services

This resource helps families to access the Medicaid funds provides to schools annually to increase access to quality physical, mental, and behavioral health services for eligible students. These funds pay for services to students with disabilities served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and students from low-income families enrolled in Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) programs.

2023 Early Childhood Transition Questions and Answers

OSERS' Office of Special Education Programs released an updated Early Childhood Transition Q&A document, which incorporates longstanding policy and provides further clarification on early childhood transition from IDEA Part C early intervention services to IDEA Part B preschool services.

Commemorating the 48th Anniversary of the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act

48 years ago, President Gerald Ford signed into law the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA), which later became known as the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA. Learn about work done this past year to improve outcomes for millions of children with disabilities receiving special education and related services under the IDEA.

Joint Policy Statement on the Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Programs

This policy statement, released jointly by the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, states that all young children with disabilities should have access to high-quality inclusive early childhood programs that provide individualized and appropriate support so they can fully participate alongside their peers without disabilities, meet high expectations, and achieve their full potential.

OSERS Mission

To improve early childhood, educational, and employment outcomes and raise expectations
for all people with disabilities, their families, their communities, and the nation.

In implementing this mission, OSERS supports programs that help educate children and youth with disabilities and provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities. OSERS provides a wide array of supports to parents and individuals, school districts and states in two main areas—special education and vocational rehabilitation—through its two main components: OSEP and RSA.
