Assistant U.S. Education Secretary Stump to Visit Phoenix’s GateWay Community College-Washington Campus as Part of 2019 National Back to School Tour

Stump to see projects in Industrial Technology, Design and Applied Business

Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education Scott Stump will visit GateWay Community College’s Washington Campus Monday in Phoenix as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s 2019 National Back to School tour.

Officially known as the Education Freedom Tour, Stump will see GateWay’s industrial technology division where students learn to design, create and maintain the machinery that keeps the wheels of industry turning. The visit starts at 2:30 p.m. with a press availability at 3:45 p.m.

GateWay promotes multiple pathways to a meaningful career. It offers more than 150 different degree and certificate programs. The institution partners with at least 20 high schools to provide dual enrollment options for Phoenix-area students.

Stump is one of several top Education Department officials crisscrossing the nation this week as part of the Department’s annual Back to School activities – spotlighting promising efforts to rethink education and prepare students for success.

From Arizona, Stump will continue his travels in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Henderson, Nev., and Charleston, W.Va.
