Today's event is the first of Secretary DeVos' six-state, "Rethink School" tour, showcasing creative ways in which education leaders are meeting the needs of students in K-12 and higher education.

It's good to be here at ALEC, with so many friends and quality leaders shaping policy across all 50 states. A special thanks to my fellow Michiganders, thanks so much for joining us and for your hard work in the Great Lakes State.
I'm no stranger to state-based advocacy; it was a primary focus of mine for 30 years before I entered public service.

Thank you, Denisha, for the kind introduction, and congratulations on your graduation! I'm so proud of you and what you've achieved, and I know we are all looking forward to seeing how you make your mark in the world!
You know, it's stories like Denisha's that make me get up every day and fight for a quality education for all students. I'm inspired to see the transformational change education can make in a young person's life.
