Thank you, Kyle Kashuv, for that introduction. I was so pleased to meet and visit with you some months ago. The adage of good things coming from bad situations was proven once again. I hope you know just how impressed we are by your courage and your determination to stay engaged.
Many of you know Kyle, and you know what he and his classmates went through in Parkland, Florida. No student, no parent, no teacher should ever have to worry about their safety at school.

Thank you, Grace, for that introduction. Tim, thank you for putting students at the center of everything you do at SkillsUSA. Governor Bevin, thank you for the warm welcome to Kentucky and to Louisville.
I've spent most of my life in the private sector, and I still feel more at home at events like thiswith leaders of industry, creative thinkers, and doers than in the acronym-obsessed halls of Washington, D.C.

Thank you, Jim, for that kind introduction and for your leadership of this fine organization. I appreciate the opportunity to be with all of you and the chance to get out the Department for a minute – the early signs of spring are promising food for the soul!
I know you must appreciate this opportunity to gather and learn from each other, and to return to your communities, your schools, and your homes reenergized and refocused on our main motivation: individual students.

Hello, everyone. It's good to be with all of you in my official capacity as Secretary.
Before Governor Bush and I begin our conversation, I first wanted to set the scene for the current state of education in America.
Take a moment to think about how much of life has changed in the last 50 years – phones, shopping, transportation… all radically different than before.
Yet there's one glaring exception: the classroom.
