Today, the U.S. Department of Education is announcing an additional $2.5 million investment to centers that serve a critical role for parents and families of students with disabilities across the nation. These supplemental grants to Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) ensure that all families have the information and training they need to participate effectively in helping their children and navigating the special education system.

September 12, 2022Today, the Department of Education is announcing new awards to help recruit, prepare, develop, and retain a strong, effective and diverse teacher workforce for classrooms across the country through the Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grant program. This year’s investment includes 22 new five-year grants totaling $24.8 million through its TQP program. The award recipients represent IHEs and national nonprofits, including three HBCUs and one MSI.

Today, the U.S. Department of Education awarded 28 new three-year grants totaling $35.3 million through the Alaska Native Education (ANE) program. The ANE program recognizes the important roles that Alaska Native languages and cultures play in the educational success and long-term well-being of Alaska Native students. ANE grants were made to Alaska Native Organizations and entities in Alaska governed predominately by Alaska Natives.

When President Biden took office, most schools in America remained closed. President Biden got to work. He put teachers at the front of the vaccine line and got Congress to provide aid to improve ventilation and spacing in schools. This plan produced results: a few weeks after President Biden put these measures in place, a majority of schools were open for the first time since the pandemic started.

Today, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) announced that it will discharge all remaining federal student loans for borrowers who enrolled in any location of Westwood College (including enrollment in Westwood's online program) between January 1, 2002 through November 17, 2015 when it stopped enrolling new borrowers in advance of its 2016 closure.
