U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will travel to Colorado on Tuesday, Feb. 28, where he will hold an education reform town hall meeting, deliver remarks at the Green Schools National Network Conference, and participate in a Cradle to Career and Partnerships Roundtable.

On Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m., Duncan will hold an education reform town hall, highlighting success in the state of Colorado, at the Evie Garrett Dennis Campus. This community conversation will include educators, parents, elected officials, business and community leaders, and students. The Secretary will be joined by Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia, Commissioner Robert Hammond and Superintendent Tom Boasberg of Denver Public Schools. A media availability will follow the town hall at 10:20 a.m.

Following the town hall at 11:30 a.m., Duncan will address an audience of 1,500 district administrators and staff, principals, school business officers, school board members, teachers, facility managers, school guidance/career counselors, parents, and students at the Green Schools National Network Conference at the Colorado Convention Center. He will stress the growing importance and recognition of green schools, environmental literacy, and educating children about environmental stewardship and sustainability. A question-and-answer session will follow.

At 12:45 p.m., Duncan will visit Vista PEAK preschool-postsecondary education campus in Aurora, Colo., where he will observe what students are learning about medicine and health sciences, and then he will participate in a brief on-camera interview with students from the arts and communication pathway. Following the visit with students, Duncan will participate in a Cradle to Career and Partnerships roundtable discussion with Superintendent of Aurora Public Schools John Barry at 12:50 p.m. and hold a media availability at 1:45 p.m.

And finally, after Duncan’s visit at Vista PEAK P-20, U.S. Department of Education Teaching Ambassador Fellow Sharla Steever will hold a roundtable discussion on the Department’s proposed RESPECT program to engage teachers and principals in a national conversation about elevating the teaching profession.
