U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Austin, Texas, this week where he will keynote SXSW EDU and visit Austin Community College District’s Highland Campus on Wednesday and Blazier Elementary School on Thursday.

For the keynote conversation on Wednesday at SXSW EDU, the Secretary will join A Starting Point’s Dana Brown for a panel discussion with students on how to reimagine education with student voices and experiences at the center. Thekeynote will feature an introductory message by A Starting Point cofounders and actors Chris Evans and Mark Kassen.

At ACC, Secretary Cardona will tour the college’s Highland Campus. He will follow that by recognizing Women’s History Month with a 2:15 p.m. roundtable discussion with ACC Chancellor Dr. Richard Rhodes and women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs.

On Thursday, the Secretary will spotlight the first anniversary of the American Rescue Plan and the Department’s focus on engaging parents as we recover from the pandemic with an appearance at Blazier Elementary School – Intermediate Site (Grades 4-6). There, beginning at 9 a.m., he will tour the school, followed by a 9:30 a.m. roundtable discussion that will include an American Rescue Plan-funded parent engagement specialist, educators and parents of Blazier students.  Please note: the Blazier school tour will be pooled press coverage, while the roundtable discussion will be open press.
