U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give brief opening remarks at the annual gala for Everybody Wins! at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, in Washington, D.C. Duncan will discuss the importance of developing reading skills and the value of mentoring students. Everybody Wins! is a non-profit organization that promotes children’s literacy and a love of learning through shared reading experiences with caring individuals. The program currently serves nearly 20,000 children and adults through affiliates and partners in 16 states and Washington, DC. In partnership with Everybody Wins!, many U.S. Education Department staff volunteer weekly as reading mentors for D.C. public school students.
