U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education to Visit New York City Public Schools During “Raise the Bar: Lead the World” Tour

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten will continue her “Raise the Bar: Lead the World” tour by traveling to the Brooklyn STEAM Center in New York City, to discuss how they can continue to promote academic excellence and prepare students for global competitiveness. She will tour the facility to see the STEAM Center model in action and then will take part in a panel discussion with students, parents, and industry partners about how the STEAM Center model is raising the bar in education.

The Brooklyn STEAM Center delivers innovative, industry-informed experiences which empower students to take charge of their futures, and creates a diverse, skilled talent pipeline for the technology and manufacturing industries. The students can choose from six pathways under the Career & Technical Education program model. Each program is approved by the New York State Education Department and features an industry-approved curriculum, engaging partnerships, supportive work-based learning experiences including an internship program, and stackable industry credentials. The six programs are: Cybersecurity, Full-Stack Development, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management, Design & Engineering, and Film & Media.

The “Raise the Bar” tour kicked off last month and comes on the heels of U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona’s recent major address, “Raise the Bar: Lead the World,” where he laid out the U.S. Department of Education’s vision, his continued priorities to promote academic excellence and prepare for global competitiveness, and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to ensuring states, school districts, and schools have the support they need to prepare students for the 21st century global economy. The tour will continue in other states, which will be announced later.
