U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Mitchell Zais to Visit Idaho During 2019 Back to School Tour

As part of U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’ 2019 Back to School tour, U.S. Deputy  Education Secretary Mitchell Zais will travel to Boise, Idaho, to visit two schools that are rethinking education and preparing students for success.

Dr. Zais will begin the day at One Stone—a student-led, tuition-free, independent school.  Students at One Stone learn and practice critical 21st century skills like communication, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, empathy, grit and critical thinking.

In the afternoon, Dr. Zais will visit Elevate Academy in Caldwell, Idaho, which is a year-round technical education high school for at-risk students that opened this year. Elevate Academy provides students access to multiple career pathways that prepare them to enter the workforce or pursue higher education after graduation. While at the school, Dr. Zais will explain how the Secretary’s Education Freedom Scholarships proposal, introduced in both the House and Senate, could expand CTE options like this one to more students in the state.

Credentialed media interested in attending the event must RSVP to press@ed.gov by 7 a.m. MDT, on Wednesday, Sep. 18, 2019. Include the name of the school/event in the subject line of your message. A valid media credential and photo ID will be required for access to the event.
