U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Continues the ARPStars Tour in Washington State

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten continues the “ARPStars” tour in Washington state this week, April 20-21, to highlight ways schools are using American Rescue Plan (ARP) investments to support K-12 students’ recovery from the pandemic. She will visit Lummi Nation School District on Wednesday, April 20 and the Tacoma Public School District on Thursday, April 21.

Wednesday morning, Deputy Secretary Marten will visit Lummi Nation School, where she will tour classrooms, a student-based health clinic, and meet with students and school leaders to learn how they are using ARP funds to address students’ needs.

On Thursday morning, Deputy Secretary Marten will travel to the SAMI: Science and Math Institute, to see an outdoor classroom hands on learning session and also meet with the superintendent and other community leaders to discuss community partnerships to offer extended learning for kids funded, in part, by ARP dollars.

Thursday afternoon, she will visit Lister Elementary School, where she will read to students, visit classrooms and meet with the school leaders.

These visits are part of Deputy Secretary Marten’s “ARPStars” tour to highlight the use of ARP funds in school districts across the country. Since President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law one year ago, which included $130 billion to support recovery efforts at K-12 schools, more than 99% of elementary and secondary school students have returned to classrooms for in-person learning.
