The U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Health and Human Services (HHS) have invited states representatives to a technical assistance workshop on the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge (RTT-ELC) on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 11a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EDT at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters in Washington, D.C. Participants will include Department representatives leading the Administration's efforts to administer the competition, including the ED's Senior Advisor for Early Learning Jacqueline Jones and HHS's Deputy Assistant Secretary and Inter-Departmental Liaison for Early Childhood Development Joan Lombardi, as well as state representatives tasked with completing the RTT-ELC application.

RTT-ELC is a new, state-level grant competition to align and improve early learning and development programs in order to better prepare more children for kindergarten and provide them with a strong foundation for success in school and beyond. Last month, ED and HHS released the final application inviting states to apply for a portion of the $500 million fund. Tuesday's workshop will provide an in-depth overview of the technical and logistical aspects of the competition. Afterward, state representatives will be invited to ask questions.

The in-person workshop will be held in Washington, D.C. with simultaneous video-teleconferencing to 11 cities throughout the United States: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, San Juan, and Seattle.

For media interested in attending Tuesday's workshop, please RSVP by 5 p.m. EDT to Elaine.Quesinberry@ed.gov. To learn more about RTT-ELC, visit ED's website at http://www2.ed.gov/programs/racetothetop-earlylearningchallenge/index.html.
