The Rev. The theme of the conference is “Engaged Learning, Engaged Families, Engaged Communities,” and it aims to help attendees evolve their services to embrace technology and consider it a solution for connecting formal education to informal learning environments. This conference is the largest family literacy event held annually.

On Sunday, April 28, Robbins will give remarks on Together for Tomorrow, which spotlights and fosters partnerships among schools, families, national service programs, and community-based organizations in order to propel improvement of our lowest-performing schools.

On Monday, April 29, Girton-Mitchell will give the keynote remarks at the banquet ending the days’ activities. She will address some 1,500 educators representing every state in the country and several foreign countries, along with national policy makers, philanthropists and media. Girton-Mitchell will talk about advancing family engagement in education and will announce a new partnership between the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Family Literacy to raise the awareness and understanding of effective family and community engagement in education, including how teachers and families can better collaborate to improve student engagement and learning.
