Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will visit Forsyth County School District on Friday, Feb. 24, to learn more about “EngageME P.L.E.A.S.E. (Personalized Learning Experiences Accelerate Standards-based Education),” a project funded by an Investing in Innovation Fund (i3) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Forsyth County School’s i3 implementation team, along with Superintendent L.C. “Buster” Evans, members of the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt executive team, and education officials from the University of Georgia, will join Shelton while he visits North Forsyth Middle School to talk with students and teachers. A media availability will follow the school visit.

Forsyth County Schools received a $4.7 million i3 grant in 2010 from the U.S. Department of Education for the implementation of EngageME P.L.E.A.S.E. The goal of the project is to increase student achievement and growth, and overall graduation rates, especially for high-needs students. The project is run in partnership with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and the University of Georgia. With its private support in place, Forsyth is putting students on track to succeed in college and in their careers.

Note: Media are invited for the entire visit—from 9 a.m. to noon.
