The U.S. Department of Education will host the art exhibit of creative works by Fairfax County Public Schools’ students titled The World Through My Eyes. The opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. ET, Tuesday, July 18 in the Department’s headquarters auditorium.

The event will showcase some 90 works by students in grades k–12 from 28 schools in Fairfax County, Virginia.  The opening program will feature The Chamber Orchestra from Spring Hill Elementary led by Ruth Donahue, a full orchestra from Lake Braddock Secondary School led by Troops to Teachers Veteran Clayton Allen and his colleague Austin Isaac, a film created by students from Rachel Carson Middle School, a vocal performance of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked by a Westbriar Elementary School student, and a performance of “Holding Out for a Hero” from Footloose by students at six high schools, led by theater director Pat Mitchell.

The Department’s Student Art Exhibit Program, now in its 14th year, provides students and teachers an opportunity to display creative work from the classroom in a highly public place that honors their work and the importance of the arts.
