Teach to Lead to Hold 14th Teacher Leadership Summit in Austin, Texas

The U.S. Department of Education, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and ASCD will hold their fourteenth Teach to Lead Teacher Leadership Summit on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24, 2017, in Austin, Texas.

The attendees will include 29 teams of teachers working with other key stakeholders such as principals, state agency staff and community members from 14 states. Each team was selected by other teachers based on the ideas they had submitted for teacher-led efforts designed to innovate and improve schooling on behalf of students. The twenty-nine projects loosely fall into six buckets: Better School and/or Community Collaboration, Equity of Access, Family Engagement, Supporting New and Beginning Teachers, Rethinking Professional Development and Statewide Reforms.

Teach to Lead works to promote teachers as leaders of their profession without having to leave the classroom. As such, Teach to Lead expands support for teachers as valued experts in instruction by providing access to resources, opportunity and time for collaboration, and professional consultation to lead innovative changes and improvements at the school district, state and national level.

Teach to Lead commemorated its third anniversary in March 2017. In addition to a Teacher Leadership Summit held in Columbus, Ohio this past May, Teach to Lead has supported 6 Leadership Labs this year, with 5 more in planning for 2017. The labs are local day long events assisting a Summit team to grow stakeholder support for their project. Additionally, Teach to Lead has supported nine Powered By Teach to Lead Summits, or Teacher Leadership Summits focused on particular geographic regions or topics led by some of the initiative's nearly 150 supporting organizations.
