Secretary DeVos to Deliver Remarks on the State of Education Following the Release of the Nation’s Report Card

WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos will deliver remarks on the state of education in America following the release of the 2019 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the Nation’s Report Card.

NAEP is the largest continuing, nationally representative evaluation of education in the United States and measures 4th and 8th graders’ abilities in reading and mathematics. Results are tabulated at the state and national levels and for 27 large school districts in the nation. The results can be broken down by race, sex, and eligibility for free and reduced lunch. This makes NAEP a particularly useful tool for measuring the achievement gap.
