Secretary Cardona to Travel to Vermont with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders to Visit Two Elementary Schools, Speak with Families about Importance of Early Childhood Education and Youth Vaccinations

Tomorrow, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Burlington, Vermont where he will join U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders to visit two elementary schools. First, he will visit a pre-k program at Sustainability Academy at Lawrence Barnes to underscore the importance of early childhood education. Then he will visit Champlain Elementary School where he will speak to afterschool teachers, visit a COVID-19 student vaccine clinic, and encourage students and families to get vaccinated. During the tour, Secretary Cardona will learn more about Burlington School District’s commitment to inoculating all eligible students, including children ages 5-11 who are being served by the on-site clinic.

More than 225 million Americans have received their first shot, including 15 million 12- to 17-year-olds. Over ten percent of children ages 5-11 have already received at least one dose of the vaccine since it became available on November 8.

Parents and caregivers can visit 20,000 convenient and trusted locations to get children vaccinated, including thousands of pediatricians and family doctors’ offices, pharmacies, community health centers, children’s hospitals, and community-based sites and schools. Getting vaccinated is free. To find a site, visit www.vaccines.gov.
