Secretary Cardona to Travel to Hampton, Virginia, with Ranking Member Scott to Discuss Importance of High-Quality College and Career Readiness 

On Monday, May 8, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Hampton, Virginia, with U.S. Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott to highlight the importance of a high-quality education and career readiness programs. Congressman Scott is the top Democrat on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

First, they will head to Bethel High School to tour the facility and learn firsthand from the school's leaders and teachers about how the college and career readiness programs have prepared students for college and beyond. Afterwards, Secretary Cardona and Congressman Scott will visit Hampton University where they will participate in a conversation with education leaders about the importance of wrap around services in order to support students throughout college.  

A press gaggle will take place following the roundtable conversation.

This trip comes on the heels of Secretary Cardona’s recent major address, “Raise the Bar: Lead the World,” where he laid out his continued priorities to promote academic excellence and prepare for global competitiveness, and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to ensuring states, school districts, and schools have the support they need to prepare students for the 21st century global economy.
