Secretary Cardona to Travel to Delaware with Senator Tom Carper to Discuss Mental Health Support in Schools
On Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to New Castle, Delaware, where he will join U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons for a tour and a roundtable discussion on mental health services. Recently, the U.S. Department of Education announced allocations of nearly $1 billion to states for the Stronger Connections Grant Program to support safer and healthier learning environments for K-12 students, including through increased school-based mental health support.
Hosted by Sen. Carper, Secretary Cardona will join a roundtable discussion at Eisenberg Elementary School with federal, local, and state elected leaders, community advocates, and school representatives. Eisenberg Elementary has been a leader in supporting students’ mental health through its wellness centers and school investments.
Press are invited to join for a brief tour of the school’s wellness center and outdoor classroom, followed by the roundtable discussion. A press gaggle with Secretary Cardona and Sen. Carper will end the event.
