U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Boston to visit Rafael Hernández K-8 Elementary School, the oldest dual-language community school in the city. Joined by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, and Superintendent Brenda Cassellius, he will tour the school and speak with students, teachers, and parents about the importance of multilingual learning. Later, Secretary Cardona will hold a roundtable discussion with parents and Rafael Hernández school leaders to learn about the community schools model and to hear how the school is using American Rescue Plan funds for mental-health support and additional student services following the pandemic. Note: Most of the visit and conversations will be in Spanish.

A press gaggle will follow the roundtable discussion.

Afterwards, Secretary Cardona will travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, to visit the Emily Dickinson Museum and speak with college students about the benefits of the partnership between Amherst College and the museum. Due to space constraints, this event is invitation only.
