Secretary Cardona to Discuss Early Childhood Education and Celebrate Community College Month in Columbus, Ohio

On Thursday, April 20, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Columbus, Ohio, where he will focus on early childhood education programs, discuss family engagement, and then head to a community college to celebrate Community College Month. First, Secretary Cardona will head to Columbus City Schools’ Avondale Elementary School, utilizing the site for a meeting with military families to discuss the Department's support for the families of service members, highlighting the Month of the Military Child. Afterwards, he will tour the school to see ways that teachers are working across grades to support instructional alignment and continuity in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade.

Later, Secretary Cardona will tour Columbus State Community College to view its traditional academic programs as well as industry-sponsored workforce development programs that support education to career alignment. He will then meet with key local leaders to discuss how K-12 school districts, community colleges, and employers are working together to train students to meet growing job needs, supported by the President’s investments in the economy.

A press gaggle will take place following the roundtable conversation.

This trip comes on the heels of President Biden and Vice President Harris’ Investing in America tour and continues to share its agenda of bringing manufacturing back, rebuilding the middle class, creating good-paying jobs, and repairing roads and bridges. To date, the Administration has unleashed over $435 billion in private sector manufacturing investments, has overseen the strongest jobs recovery in history, has funded 23,000 infrastructure projects, is lowering costs for American families and is bringing supply chains back home.
