Secretary Cardona to Join New York City Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter, AFT President Randi Weingarten & Students to Highlight Importance of Social and Emotional Learning, Vaccinations

Tomorrow, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will join Chancellor of New York City Department of Education Meisha Porter and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten to visit New York City schools. During this trip, Secretary Cardona will observe and participate in social and emotional learning activities in the Bronx funded, in part, by the American Rescue Plan. Building school communities and supporting students’ social, emotional, and mental health is a landmark in the Department's Return to School Roadmap. Afterwards, they will visit with student athletes and tout the importance of the COVID-19 vaccination for a healthy, in-person school year at Harry S. Truman High School.
