Acting Director of Educational Technology Richard Culatta to Discuss President’s ConnectED Initiative, Provide Update on the Department’s Educational Technology Activities at ISTE Conference in San Antonio

Richard Culatta, acting director of the Office of Educational Technology (OET), will discuss the President's ConnectED Initiative and provide an update on OET activities at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference Tues.-Wed., June 25-26 in San Antonio, Texas.

At midday on Tuesday, Culatta will present an update on OET activities, including Connected Educator Month, crowdsourcing digital learning content through The Learning Registry, and using data to speed up classroom internet.

On Wednesday morning, he will participate on a panel to provide feedback on ideas presented at an education technology startup "pitch fest." In the afternoon, Culatta will participate on a panel as part of the ISTE closing session to discuss ConnectED and the need to close the broadband gap in schools across the country. ConnectED aims to connect 99 percent of America’s students to the internet through high-speed broadband and high-speed wireless within five years, calling on the FCC to modernize and leverage its existing E-Rate program to meet that goal

The ISTE is a membership association for educators and education leaders engaged in advancing excellence in learning and teaching through innovative and effective uses of technology.
