People with disabilities sometimes experience discrimination. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) works to prevent and address disability discrimination. OCR does this by enforcing two laws that prohibit discrimination based on disability: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title II). Section 504 applies to recipients of Federal financial assistance and Title II applies to public entities. OCR also issues guidance so the public can better understand these two laws.
