Program Description
The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program provides fellowships, through academic departments and programs of institutes of higher education (IHEs), to assist graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in their course study at the institution in a field designated as an area of national need.
Eligibility
Academic departments and programs of institutes of higher education (IHEs) that provide courses of study leading to a graduate degree may apply. Nondegree granting institutions may submit joint proposals with degree-granting IHEs.
Students are NOT eligible to apply for this grant.

Performance Reports
All grantees are expected to submit an annual performance report documenting their success in addressing the GEPA performance measures and to submit a final performance report 90 days after the close of their grant. In addition grantees are required to submit a supplement to the final performance report two years after their GAANN grant ends updating the educational and employment outcomes of each GAANN fellow.
