September 14, 2016Secretary of Education John B. King, Jr., delivered remarks at the U.S. Department of Education Headquarters in Washington, D.C., before setting off on the seventh annual back-to-school bus tour of the Obama Administration to celebrate progress in communities and states across the country. The tour kicked off in the nation's capital and ended in Louisiana. King and other senior Department officials held events highlighting the Administration's key education initiatives and the progress made to expand opportunity across the nation, as well as the groundwork laid for continued momentum.

Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will discuss the importance of improving America's schools at the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. His keynote address will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center.
