Jose Rico Appointed Director of White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan today announced the appointment of José Rico as the new director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. The Initiative is in charge of expanding academic excellence and improving educational opportunities for Hispanics for President Obama and Secretary Duncan.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor Swears in Presidential Advisory Commission Members Tasked with Helping America Out-Educate the Rest of the World

WASHINGTON – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Court's first Hispanic justice, swore in more than a dozen newly appointed members of the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics at an official ceremony held last night at the Smithsonian Institution Castle.

This Tuesday, I had the great honor of joining President Obama as he signed the executive order on the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. I shared this special moment with my colleagues, Assistant Secretary for Post-Secondary Education Eduardo Ochoa and Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of English Language Acquisition, Rosalinda Barrera, as well as a number of distinguished Latino leaders.
