Washington — Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos awarded more than $20 million in new funding to support innovative teacher preparation models that prepare prospective and new teachers to serve students in high-need schools. Under the Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) program, the Department of Education made 31 awards totaling $20.1 million.

In the next 10 years, 1.6 million new teachers will be needed to take the place of teachers who will retire. Many of these educators will pass through traditional teacher preparation programs.

Education Department Senior Advisor Jo Anderson will deliver the keynote address at the general session of the National Association for Alternative Certification (NAAC) 21st annual conference on Friday, March 11, at 9:15 a.m. Anderson will deliver his remarks in the LaSalle Ballroom of the Doubletree Magnificent Mile in Chicago.
