This week, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Education Department's proposal to double the amount of federal dollars set aside for family involvement. The Department also proposed allowing states to use federal funds to hold a competition to generate the best local ideas on family involvement.

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $77,205,456 is now available for Nebraska under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Nebraska has received $471,635,192 through the Recovery Act. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 1,700 education jobs from Oct. 1 to Dec.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Vermont will receive $8.5 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
