U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced the award of $9.2 million for 14 awards to improve the leadership and effectiveness of current and aspiring principals and assistant principals in high-need school districts. Grants will be used to develop and expand innovative programs to recruit, train, and provide professional development opportunities for principals.

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $514,403,320 is now available for Pennsylvania under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Pennsylvania has received $3,466,058,936 through the ARRA. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 10,000 education jobs from Jan.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that New Hampshire will receive $10 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has awarded Poplar Elementary School District #9 in rural Poplar, Montana, a $50,000 Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant to assist with ongoing recovery efforts following the suicide death of five students at Poplar Middle School last school year.
