DETROIT, MICHIGAN – Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited Detroit, Michigan on her Returning Education to the States Tour.
Secretary McMahon toured Pembroke Academy, a public K-8th grade charter school, and participated in a school choice roundtable with the House Committee on Education and Workforce Chairman Tim Walberg, Congressman John Moolenaar, Congressman Burgess Owens, and community leaders. Secretary McMahon then visited Renaissance High School, a magnet high school, and Washington Parks Academy, a public K-8th grade charter school.
While in Michigan, Secretary McMahon also toured Hillsdale Academy, a private classical school to discuss literacy with faculty, and Hillsdale College, where she met with college leadership and delivered remarks on restoring public trust in American higher education.
“In Michigan, I had the opportunity to visit both a variety of K-12 schools and Hillsdale College, each showing in their own way how local leadership and independence can drive meaningful outcomes,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. “These visits reinforced the value of letting schools lead with solutions that reflect the needs and strengths of their communities.”

As we visited schools like Pembroke Academy, Hillsdale Academy, and Hillsdale College, the Secretary and I were able to see the incredible benefits of state and local-led education firsthand," said House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg. "I am glad to have an ally in the Department of Education like Secretary McMahon who understands the importance of returning education to the states while putting students, teachers, and families first. Together, we can do right by our students and make education great again!”
