On Tuesday, Sept. 13, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will continue the Road to Success Back to School Bus Tour. The weeklong, multi-state road trip will showcase the many ways school communities are helping students recover and thrive—putting them on the road to success.
Secretary Cardona will attend an event hosted by Special Olympics at Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary School in Richmond, where the school will announce some news about Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools®, a strategy for Pre-K — university schools that promotes meaningful social inclusion for students of all abilities. Secretary Cardona will end the day at Bluestone Elementary School in Harrisonburg, where he will tour the Boys and Girls Club program and speak with parents and teachers about academic recovery and parent engagement for English language learners and special education students.
The Road to Success Bus Tour—which kicked off today, Sept. 12, and runs through Friday, Sept. 16—features stops in Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The tour began today in Knoxville, Tennessee, with a stop later this afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina. It will conclude in Camden, New Jersey. Throughout the week, Secretary Cardona, Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten, and local school leaders will join students, parents, and educators for additional events that celebrate the back-to-school season and underscore the Administration's commitment to helping students recover from the impacts of the pandemic and continue the road to success.
As part of the Road to Success Bus Tour, leaders from the Biden-Harris Administration also will highlight academic and mental health programs and efforts to recruit and support educators funded by President Biden's American Rescue Plan, which provided historic resources to K-12 schools, colleges, and universities to reopen schools and help students of all ages recover.
