On Wednesday, July 17, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to speak with Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) presidents and speak to borrowers who recently benefited from various debt relief programs.
Secretary Cardona will first head to Clark Atlanta University where he will speak with college presidents from Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, Spelman College, Savannah State University, and more about the needs of HBCUs and ways the Administration can support them. This past May, the Administration announced a record total of more than $16 billion of federal funds in support for HBCUs. Through continued efforts in supporting advancements of intergenerational economic mobility for Black families, both the Department and the Administration seek to uplift the Black community. A pool spray will take place near the end of this conversation. Then he will continue at Clark Atlanta University with a conversation with debt relief recipients. This conversation is open to media.
Following the discussions, the Secretary will tour Spelman College, including a meet and greet with students in order to gain insight on supporting women of color in higher education through means of strengthening equity initiatives and career readiness programs.
This visit is part of the fourth Investing in America tour: Investing in America, Made in America where President Biden’s Cabinet and White House officials will travel across the country to highlight how President Biden’s policies are lowering costs, creating good jobs, rebuilding America’s infrastructure, and spurring investments in manufacturing so that goods are once again made in America by American workers.
