In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Richmond, Virginia, on Monday with U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine to speak with students who are enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) programs, and teacher pipeline programs in high school and community college.

Secretary Cardona and Sen. Kaine will tour the CTE program at Reynolds Community College and then meet with students and administrators who are involved in the program to discuss the importance of job training. Outlined in his vision for education in America, Secretary Cardona wants the Department and school districts across the country to reimagine education by ensuring that pathways through higher education lead to successful careers. This includes collaboration among partners to invest in career preparation programs that meet the needs of today’s economy and prioritizing grant programs that allow students to pursue career and technical education programs at any point in their lives and careers.

Afterwards, Secretary Cardona and Sen. Kaine will head to Armstrong High School, a public school in the city of Richmond, to learn more about the Richmond Teacher Residency program, which recruits, trains, and supports teachers in high-needs schools. This will include a tour of the high school and a conversation with RTR alumni and residents. A press gaggle will follow this event.
