UPDATE: Events previously scheduled for Friday, February 25, 2022 have been cancelled.
This week, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Las Vegas with the Nevada Congressional Delegation to visit various schools. On these tours, Secretary Cardona will speak with students, teachers, and parents about ways to ensure school communities can effectively recover from the pandemic.
Secretary Cardona will visit Spring Valley High School with Sen. Jacky Rosen where they will participate in a conversation with students and school counselors about the importance of providing mental health support in schools, especially following disruptions to in-person learning.
Afterwards, he will join Rep. Dina Titus to tour Clark High School and speak with students and parents about the importance of after-school activities and enrichment programs. Earlier this year, Secretary Cardona encouraged every student to participate in at least one extracurricular activity.
To end the day, Secretary Cardona and Rep. Susie Lee will visit Charlotte Hill Elementary School and participate in a book reading ahead of Nevada Reading Week (February 28-March 4). They will also join a roundtable conversation with parents and education leaders about the importance of fully funding Title I and the importance of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) programs.
Each stop will include a press gaggle. Due to spacing constraints, not every event is open to the press. Please RSVP to secure your spot. Members of the press are encouraged to wear a mask during each event. Masks can be provided if needed.
