In the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance Administration, the U.S. Department of Education has advanced President Trump’s goal to return education to states by empowering parents to make decisions in their child’s education and removing bureaucratic barriers to educational choice.
ED has Empowered Parents to Make Decisions in Their Child’s Education by:
- Celebrating National School Choice Week;
- Opening investigations into the California Department of Education and the Maine Department of Education for alleged violations of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act, the law that gives parents the right to access their children’s educational data;
- Directing states to comply with parents’ rights laws; and
- Encouraging states to expand education choice by leveraging flexibilities in Title I funds.
ED has Removed Bureaucratic Barriers to Educational Choice by:
- Withdrawing two burdensome and misaligned Notices Inviting Application (NIA) for charter school programs;
- Releasing $33 million in grant funding for Charter Management Organizations under last year’s Charter School Program competition;
- Reversing a Biden-Harris reporting scheme that burdened states and local Career and Technical Education programs to comply with unnecessary reporting requirements; and
- Reining in the federal government’s influence over state Charter School Program grant awards.
States are Championing School Choice in President Trump’s First 100 Days:
- Idaho boosted school choice options with the Parental Choice Tax Credit program;
- Tennessee made universal school choice a reality, passing the Education Freedom Act into law;
- Texas passed the state’s first universal school choice bill in the state’s history; and
- Wyoming signed a landmark universal school choice bill into law.

Protecting Women & Girls by Enforcing Title IX
In the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance Administration, ED has advanced President Trump’s commitment to Title IX & protecting female athletes & female-only intimate spaces.

Under the President's leadership, the U.S. Department of Education has initiated 20 Title IX investigations, referred Maine to the Department of Justice (DOJ) after concluding its noncompliance with Title IX, and launched a Title IX Special Investigations Team alongside DOJ to streamline investigations and expedite enforcement. This Administration will follow the biological reality that there are only two sexes: male and female.
ED Has Fought For Women & Girls Facing Discrimination By:
- Notifying educational entities that we will enforce the Trump Administration’s 2020 Title IX Rule, reversing the Biden Administration’s 2024 damaging rewrite;
- Launching 20 Title IX investigations – including into San Jose State University, University of Pennsylvania, the Maine Department of Education, the California Department of Education, University of Maryland, and Wagner College – amid allegations that educational entities have allowed men to compete in women’s sports and invade women-only intimate spaces;
- Initiating a federal funding termination proceeding for the Maine Department of Education for their violations of Title IX, and referring the case to the Department of Justice for further enforcement action;
- Urging the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) to restore to women the records, titles, awards, and recognitions that were misappropriated by males competing in female categories; and
- Partnering with DOJ to create a Title IX Special Investigations Team consisting of expert attorneys and investigators from both agencies to ensure consistent investigations and expeditious enforcement for Title IX violations.
Rooting Out Illegal DEI & Enforcing Title VI & SFFA v. Harvard

In the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance Administration, the U.S. Department of Education has taken unprecedented action to root out divisive “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” ideologies and to hold schools accountable to their racial antidiscrimination obligations under Title VI and Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. The Department has issued guidance and taken enforcement action to ensure schools cease using race preferences and stereotypes in federally-funded educational environments.
ED Has Combatted Illegal DEI & Racial Preferencing In Schools By:
- Notifying educational institutions receiving federal funding that they must follow antidiscrimination law and cease using race preferences and stereotypes as a factor in admissions, hiring, scholarships, discipline, and beyond;
- Initiating investigations into 6 universities for allegedly awarding impermissible race-based scholarships and one university for allegedly administering a program that segregates students based on race;
- Launching investigations into 45 universities under Title VI for allegedly partnering with “The Ph.D. Project,” an organization that provides doctoral students with insights into obtaining a Ph.D. but limits eligibility based on race;
- Requiring State and Local Education Agencies to certify their compliance with the antidiscrimination obligations of Title VI and SFFA v. Harvard.
ED Has Refocused Priorities On Meaningful Learning Over Woke Ideology By:
- Removing over 2,300 webpages and assets from the Biden-Harris DEI and woke agenda;
- Canceling over $350 million in contracts and grants to several Regional Educational Laboratories and Equity Assistance Centers;
- Cutting over $600 million in divisive teacher training grants; and
- Terminating $226 million in divisive and wasteful grants that were awarded under the Comprehensive Centers Program.

Protecting Jewish Students from Anti-Semitic Harassment Under Title VI
In the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance Administration, ED has enforced Title VI to protect Jewish students’ right to an equal and safe education.

Following the horrific attacks in Israel on October 7, Jewish students on American college campuses faced relentless harassment and discrimination, with little to no enforcement action from the federal government. President Trump and Secretary McMahon have corrected that wrong, directing dozens of Title VI investigations and making it clear to schools that if they want to continue receiving federal funding, they must abide by federal law.
ED Has Held Schools Accountable For Unlawful Anti-Semitic Harassment By:
- Forming the Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism with DOJ, HHS, and GSA;
- Initiating Title VI investigations of 5 universities where widespread anti-Semitic harassment has been reported: Columbia University, Northwestern University, Portland State University, The University of California, Berkeley, and The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities;
- Warning 60 universities of potential enforcement actions if they do not fulfill their obligations under Title VI to protect Jewish students;
- Making it a priority to address the Biden Administration’s backlog of complaints alleging anti-Semitic harassment and violence;
- Canceling $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University because of the school’s inaction to protect Jewish students; and
- Freezing $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60M in multi-year contract value to Harvard University.
Rightsizing Higher Education
In the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance Administration, the U.S. Department of Education has taken significant steps to enforce the law and expand opportunities for American students.

ED Enforced The Law & Halted Biden’s Attempt to Pass Debt to Every Taxpayer by:
- Ensuring no taxpayer is forced to pay debts that are not theirs.
- Revoking waivers to California and Oregon colleges and universities that used federal funds to provide services to illegal aliens.
ED Streamlined The FAFSA® Form & Delivered for American Students by:
- Publishing the 2026-27 FAFSA® form in the Federal Register, the first public step in the development process, ensuring the form is on track for a successful October launch.
- Processing more than 8 million applications, nearly a 50% increase at that time last year under the Biden Administration in March.
- Completing industry-standard practices like beta testing and batch corrections to ensure students, colleges, and universities have access to accurate information and reducing institutions’ staff time spent on corrections.
- Reflecting the biological reality by referencing sex identifiers and flagging fraudulent applications for further review in the FAFSA® form.
ED Cut Red Tape & Put Students, Families, & Schools in the Drivers’ Seat by:
- Initiating Negotiated Rulemaking, inviting the public to comment on how we can rightsize regulations that have driven up the cost of college and hindered innovation.
