Kirsten Baesler serves as the Assistant Secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. Previously, she was the longest-serving chief state school officer in the nation, serving as North Dakota’s elected state superintendent of public instruction. Throughout her career, she has championed personalized competency-based learning and in North Dakota she led the implementation of the Choice Ready accountability framework to prepare students for success in work, college, or military.
