International Education Week (IEW) celebrates the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State is an opportunity to highlight the value of global and cultural competencies and promote programs that help U.S. students and teachers develop global skills for success in the 21st century.

Perspectives on the Future of International Education
Join IFLE, along with ED’s International Affairs Office (IAO) for a moderated panel discussion into current topics and emerging trends in international education. Panelists and will share their perspectives on international education from their respective roles spanning many areas of international education including study abroad, foreign language learning, international education research, government-funded programs, and beyond. The panel will include the following guests:

Raise the Bar: Advancing Careers through Multilingual Education.
The event featured remarks by Frances Vavrus, Vice Provost and Dean for International Division, University of Wisconsin- Madison, and a panel of several alumni from the Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship, Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad fellowship, and Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad programs. The program concluded with a networking opportunity for all attendees.

Go Global Ed Podcast
- We proudly highlighted the Go Global Ed Podcast during IEW 2022. The IFLE office administers eight Title VI (domestic) and three Fulbright-Hays (overseas) grant and fellowship programs that strengthen foreign language instruction, area/international studies teaching and research, professional development for educators, and curriculum development at the K-12, graduate, and postsecondary levels. By hearing directly from grantees and fellows, the Go Global Podcast highlights the experiences of IFLE grant and fellowship recipients, provides unique insights into the application process, and explores the long-term value and impact of IFLE programs.

Joint Statement in Support of International Education
- The U.S. Departments of Education and State — with support from the Departments of Commerce and Homeland Security — issued the Joint Statement of Principles in Support of International Education in 2021. The statement affirms a renewed focus on international education, with an emphasis on international students on U.S. campuses, study abroad for Americans, and the internationalization of U.S. schools and campuses.
