Illinois, Kansas, Nevada, and South Dakota Will Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Illinois will receive $415.4 million, Kansas will receive $92.5 million, Nevada will receive $83.1 million, and South Dakota will receive $26.3 million to support education jobs.

Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that the application and guidance for states under the $10 billion Education Jobs Fund Program have been sent to governors and made available on the Education Department’s Web site.

Congress Passes Bill to Provide $10 Billion to Support 160,000 Education Jobs Nationwide

Today, by vote of 247-161, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to provide $10 billion to support an estimated 160,000 education jobs nationwide and another $16 billion to help states fund Medicaid budgets. The U.S. Senate passed the bill last Thursday by a vote of 61-39. This evening, the President signed the bill into law.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced the award of $9.2 million for 14 awards to improve the leadership and effectiveness of current and aspiring principals and assistant principals in high-need school districts. Grants will be used to develop and expand innovative programs to recruit, train, and provide professional development opportunities for principals.
