Groundhog Day Marks Kickoff of 'Job Shadowing 2006'

Beginning with a nationwide kickoff this Thursday, February 2, the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor and the National Job Shadow Coalition will support students across America as they "shadow" workplace mentors through a normal day on the job. Beginning every Groundhog Day, and continuing throughout the school year, it is now estimated over one million students job shadow a career mentor in the workplace. Job shadowing can be an academically motivating activity designed to give students the unique opportunity of an up-close look at the world of work, to appreciate firsthand how the skills they learn in school relate to the workplace, and to appreciate the importance of reaching college and career goals.

Teachers interested in participating in "Job Shadowing 2006" may want to visit the official web site for more information at: http://www.jobshadow.org.
