Slide 25 of 34
This slide presents an actual distribution of all the approximately 3 million plus student course outcomes for each of the 4 grading periods, as entered by teachers in the Cleveland schools in the 2002-2003 school year. The slide shows that, in the first quarter, most student course outcomes are 1 or "attempting the standard." By second quarter, the most frequent assigned outcome is 2 or "approaching the standard." By 3rd quarter, more are 3 "meeting the standard" and by the 4th quarter the most frequently assigned outcome is 3 or "meeting the standard." Each quarter, the number of outcomes assigned as 4 or "exceeding the standard" increases. This distribution is at it should be since, in Cleveland, course outcomes are defined against end-of-year academic standards.
