Out-of-field Teaching in Science

That is why we have to be concerned about the frequency of out-of-field teaching, as illustrated in this slide. 18% of high school students, and a whopping 42% of middle schools students in the U.S. are being taught physical science by teachers who hold neither a major nor certification in that field of study.
