In summary, after elementary school, students in the U.S. aren't doing well in science achievement, and the proportion of students pursing post-secondary careers in science, technology, engineering and math fields is low by international standards, and not improving.

What can we do to improve the situation? Among the factors worthy of attention are curriculum, teacher quality, the science of learning, and evaluation of programs and practices.
