The Emergence of Tech-Prep at the State and Local Levels - 1995

Acknowledgments

This report could not have been prepared without the help of many people. The guidance, comments, and support of staff at the U.S. Department of Education have been instrumental at every step, particularly from Sandra Furey, the project officer for the Evaluation of the Tech-Prep Education Program. We received valuable help in developing the survey questionnaire from many sources--including Nancy Brooks and other staff in the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, and state Tech-Prep coordinators. State Tech-Prep coordinators also played a key role in encouraging local coordinators to respond to the survey. The members of the evaluation advisory group--Louis Azza, Clifton Belcher, Barbara Border, Gerald Hayward, Judith Marmaras, and Diana Walter--have helped us understand Tech-Prep concepts, refine the questionnaire, and focus our analysis. Most of all, the report reflects the substantial efforts of over 700 local Tech-Prep coordinators who completed the survey questionnaire, as well as many other school and college staff who provided data to help them respond.

Not only the authors, but every member of the evaluation team made important contributions to the report. At Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., Steven Rioux managed the complex data collection procedures. Lara Hulsey and Doug Almond performed the analysis programming and prepared the graphics. Jill Miller, Monica Capizzi, Liz Finnerty, Lynne Beres, and others provided able support to prepare the survey questionnaire and the report itself. Finally, Tom Owens of Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, MPR's subcontractor for the evaluation, provided valuable input to the survey design as well as comments on the draft report.
