At Hawthorne Elementary School, teachers trying out CSILE had extensive interaction with the software developers and their site support team. While teachers received valuable insights into how the CSILE software might support what they were trying to do in their classes, the developers received feedback from the teachers on how the system was working. For example, teachers pointed out that the original interface was too difficult for their students to navigate; students were much more successful with the system after a new interface was implemented. In this way, the teachers gained experience as professional collaborators in a research and development activity.
