AR is published quarterly by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).
Subscriptions are: domestic, $15.00 per year and $5.00 single copy; foreign, $18.75 per year and $6.25 single copy.
The magazine does not pay for articles, but 6 author copies are provided after publication.
No reprints are made. Some authors elect to have their papers reprinted at their own expense using the pages of the magazine as camera-ready copy.
Since we cater to a large, varied group of professional readers, we require nonjournal, nontechnical language.
We average 6 bylined articles per issue.
Some articles are solicited, but unsolicited material receives every consideration. Central themes for upcoming issues have been selected.
The magazine will print any material relevant to the performance of professional duties related to RSA interest.
Sample copy supplied upon request.
Any topic related to rehabilitation is acceptable, such as innovative programs, agency administrative practices, research, and technique. In addition, we are particularly interested in topics that are speculative (not necessarily controversial, although controversy is not unequivocal grounds for rejection).
Manuscripts
Typed, double-spaced, and one side of the sheet; along with WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, ASCII file, on 3.5-inch floppy disk or via e-mail. Extra copies are welcomed but not required.
Manuscripts average 15 pages.
References should be held to a minimum and are carried at the end of the article in the style of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
Charts and tables can be used. But these, too, should be held to a minimum. Charts and tables should stand on their own merit, not having to be explained step by step in the text. Black and white photos illustrating article subject matter are appreciated.
Manuscript Processing: o Upon arrival of manuscripts, the author is advised of receipt.
Manuscripts are reviewed by the RSA Editorial Review Board, by one or more assigned reviewers and by the editor.
Reviewer comments are only occasionally made available to authors.
If accepted, the manuscript is edited and returned to the author for his approval. Galley proofs are not issued to authors. At this time the author is provided with a tentative schedule for publication.
Allow between a month and a month and a half between your receipt letter from the editor and a determination of acceptance or rejection.
The average time between receipt, acceptance and printing is 8 months. Only rarely is this schedule interrupted to print an article earlier.
Only original manuscripts are accepted. Articles appearing in AR are in the public domain.
Audience
Largely a professional audience in a variety of fields related to RSA interests, such as vocational counselors, supervisors, and administrators; bioengineers; planners; evaluators; social workers; teachers and researchers in the human services. Though basically a national publication, AR is subscribed to and read by rehabilitation professionals throughout the world.
A large number of college and university libraries and public and private agency libraries subscribe. Also, many counselor education programs are on the list. Articles published in AR are very often duplicated and used in seminars and for training of rehabilitation personnel; this often increases AR's readership by more than 1,000 percent.
Vocational rehabilitation agencies comprise a fair segment of the subscription total.
The magazine is abstracted and indexed in several national publications.
