The Jemez Mountain Transition to Teaching program aims to recruit 300 mid-career professionals and recent college graduates to teach in all core academic subjects, including special education and ESL, in Arizona and New Mexico. The project will serve schools on the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, and in rural New Mexico and Arizona settings that include Pueblo communities. The program goals address recruitment, mentorship throughout the certification process, teacher retention, and the development of effective hiring practices. Program outcomes include the training and placement of 300 participants in high-need schools, the retention of 90% of participants beyond the initial three-year teaching requirement, and a 20% reduction of hiring time for Jemez Mountain Public Schools.
