The Leave No Educator Behind Collaborative is dedicated to recruiting, preparing, and retaining licensed lateral entry teachers in critical need areas of mathematics and science in three North Carolina counties. The project will train 125 highly qualified mid-career professionals and college graduates whose degree was not in education as lateral entry teachers for high-need schools, with the aim of producing career educators. The project seeks to facilitate communication between new teachers and higher education institutions regarding courses, tuition reimbursement, and university and county requirements. The program provides advisors/community liaisons as well as materials including laptops, mentors, and training to eligible participants to become highly qualified teachers. Mentor support is provided via distance education and on-site. The project intends to build a teaching force that has strong content knowledge and instructional skills enabling diverse student populations to succeed.
