Individuals who have a baccalaureate degree in a content area for which there is a secondary education specialization are candidates for alternative certification under this program. A special emphasis is placed on traditionally underrepresented populations. Candidates complete an assessment of college courses and academic achievement at the statewide assessment center and develop a plan for completion of a secondary education teacher preparation program prepared collaboratively with the assessment center. This project utilizes mentor teachers, on-line professional education courses, field visits, and ongoing professional development.
